Shanghai, July 2025 — Over 100 top undergraduate students from across China gathered at East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) this month for a specialized summer camp, gaining a firsthand look at graduate-level research and campus community in the field of chemical engineering.

The two-day Gathering Wisdom in Chemical Engineering, Pioneering New Journeys camp, hosted by the university's School of Chemical Engineering, attracted nearly 300 applicants from 88 universities. The 110 selected participants engaged in a packed schedule designed to demystify advanced academic pathways. Activities ranged from keynote lectures by leading professors on frontiers like green electro-chemistry and smart manufacturing, to detailed introductions of the school's national-level research labs and engineering centers.

A highlight was the Student风采展示 (Style Presentation) session, where campers presented their own academic achievements and extracurricular activities. This peer interaction, followed by a Q&A with faculty, fostered direct dialogue. Thirty-five students were recognized as Style Stars for their outstanding presentations.

Beyond formal lectures, the camp facilitated casual conversations. Current postgraduate students and young faculty shared practical experiences about campus life and research, while organizers arranged tours of key laboratory facilities for interested attendees.

For many participants, the camp served as a critical point of connection. As one camper from Nanjing Tech University noted, the strong research platforms, engaging faculty, and enthusiastic student volunteers left a deep impression. Programs like this reflect a broader effort by Chinese universities to attract talented undergraduates into research fields by offering them early, immersive exposure to specialized academic environments and future peers.
