Shanghai, October 2025 — Students and faculty from East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) recently excelled on a national cultural stage, securing multiple awards at the 17th National College Peking Opera Performance Festival held in Taizhou, Jiangsu.

Competing against participants from over 50 universities, a team from ECUST's School of Chemical Engineering won three second prizes. Their performances of classic excerpts, including Beating Yan Song and Farewell My Concubine, were praised for their skill and stage presence, highlighting the active student society dedicated to this traditional art form.

This achievement is part of a broader initiative at the university to integrate arts and culture into the campus experience for students in science and engineering disciplines. Beyond stage performance, the school organizes visits to professional theaters, such as a recent trip to see Li Kui, the Black Whirlwind in Shanghai, offering students immersive ways to appreciate cultural heritage.

By fostering such pursuits, the university supports a more holistic educational environment where technical study coexists with creative expression and engagement with China's artistic traditions.
