October 2025 – A special gala marking the 73rd anniversary of East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) showcased a unique blend of cultural performance and academic vision, reflecting the dynamic campus life that extends beyond laboratories and lecture halls.
Held on October 25th, the School of Chemical Engineering's Forging the Future gala was structured around three thematic acts. The event seamlessly wove together traditional arts, such as folk music and Peking opera performed by university and local elementary school students, with celebrations of contemporary academic achievement. A key moment was the recognition of student teams who recently won top national honors in prestigious chemical engineering design and experiment competitions.
A significant development for future students was the launch of the Smart Chemical Engineering Education Development Fund. Initiated by Prof. Weikang Yuan and Prof. De Chen, the fund is designed to support innovation in teaching, student activities, and advancements in the field of smart chemical engineering.
The evening concluded with a joint choir of university faculty and elementary school students, symbolizing a community-oriented campus culture. Events like this gala illustrate how Chinese universities are fostering well-rounded student experiences that connect technical discipline with cultural heritage and community engagement.
