On September 12, 2025, the School of Chemical Engineering at East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) held the First Lesson in Chemical Engineering for its new students at the Fengxian Campus.
The lecture was delivered by Professor Zhu Shiping, Vice President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and a fellow of multiple prestigious academies. Addressing over 500 freshmen, Professor Zhu explained the fundamental role of chemical engineering in national development and sustainability, encouraging the youth to shape the future of the field.
Dean Xu Zhi highlighted that this event, now in its fifth year, is a signature introductory program designed to build students' professional confidence and inspire their ambitions from the very start of their studies.
The session concluded with an active Q&A, where students engaged with Professor Zhu on topics like career planning and developing a research mindset. This First Lesson is a nationwide educational initiative aimed at enhancing students' understanding and interest in the chemical engineering profession.
